The situation
Dawkins & Sons Builders had fallen several months behind on its bookkeeping and needed help getting the financial records back under control.
Bank and credit card accounts had not been fully reconciled, transactions needed to be reviewed, and the owner did not feel confident relying on the financial reports being produced from the existing records.
For a construction business, falling behind on bookkeeping can quickly make it harder to understand what the business is actually spending, how much cash is available, and whether the financial reports reflect what is happening day to day.
The priority was to review the books, identify the issues, bring the records up to date, and provide the owner with clearer financial information they could rely on.
What HFS Group did
Hibbert Financial Services Group began by reviewing the existing bookkeeping records to understand what work was required.
Rather than simply categorizing outstanding transactions, the cleanup focused on the underlying accuracy of the books.
The work included:
- reviewing bank and credit card activity
- categorizing outstanding transactions
- reconciling accounts
- identifying duplicate or missing entries
- reviewing unusual balances
- correcting inconsistent bookkeeping
- bringing missing bookkeeping up to date
- reviewing the resulting financial reports
This combination of catch-up bookkeeping and bookkeeping cleanup helped address both sides of the problem: completing work that had fallen behind and correcting issues within the existing records.
Why the cleanup mattered
A business can continue operating even when its bookkeeping is behind, but unreliable records make it much harder to understand the true financial position of the company.
For Dawkins & Sons Builders, the objective was not simply to make the bookkeeping look complete.
The goal was to create records that were more organized, current, and useful.
Once the affected accounts had been reviewed and the bookkeeping brought up to date, the owner had a clearer foundation for reviewing income, expenses, account balances, and overall financial performance.
Clean records also make it easier to provide organized financial information to a tax professional when required.
The outcome
Following the cleanup, Dawkins & Sons Builders had more current and organized bookkeeping records, clearer financial reports, and a better understanding of its financial position.
The owner was also in a stronger position to maintain the books going forward rather than allowing the backlog to continue growing.
Just as importantly, the work was explained in straightforward language so the client understood what had been corrected and what the numbers were showing.
What the client said
“Our books were behind and desperately needed fixing. Hibbert Financial Services Group really impressed us with the work they did. They were accurate, quick to turn things around, and explained everything to us in terms we could understand, all for a really affordable price.”

Bookkeeping cleanup for construction businesses
Construction companies often have a high volume of transactions moving through bank accounts and credit cards, along with materials, subcontractor costs, vehicles, equipment, customer payments, and other operating expenses.
When bookkeeping falls behind, those transactions can become increasingly difficult to review accurately.
HFS Group helps small businesses identify what needs to be corrected, bring outstanding bookkeeping up to date, reconcile accounts, and create clearer financial records going forward.
The goal is simple: treat every client’s books with the same care and attention we would give our own.
